Our IVF Journey

Our journey starts back in August 2019. The month we got married… David & I have wanted kids together since we met. David always made jokes that we were going to have twins, which was something that was quite possible as twins run on both sides of my family!

Neither of us for a second thought we would have any issues getting pregnant. David already had a child from a previous marriage and I was young and healthy! So I decided to get off birth control a couple months before we got married to let it get out of my system and then we both knew we wanted to try immediately after we got married to try and have a baby.

Well a few months passed and nothing. We weren’t super concerned as we always heard that it could take up to a year to get pregnant at our ages so we kept trying… and trying.. and trying. Yet nothing was happening.

Meanwhile, people where starting to ask questions. “Do you guys want kids”, “when are you going to have a baby?” And well.. I kinda felt like a failure so I didn’t admit that we were actively trying. I just put on a fake smile and said, “ah, we are just enjoying the honeymoon stage then we will try for a baby”.

It wasn’t until I was about 18 months into trying and starting my first fertility medication that I decided to open up about it and WOW, why didn’t I do it sooner? The support was pouring in and it was exactly what I needed. Women where reaching out left and right sharing their stories with me. I didn’t feel as much of a failure anymore. I didn’t feel so alone in this journey.

So after 8 months of being on clomid and two failed IUIs, we decided to move forward with IVF. From start to finish our IVF process lasted about a year due to some complications such as ovarian cysts, uterean fibroids & scheduling. Unfortunately I didn’t respond super well to the protocol they had me on and only ended up with two viable embryos.

We chose to transfer one but unfortunately it did not take & our IVF round failed. This was beyond devastating to say the least & knowing we wanted more than one child & only had one embryo left, we opted to do another round of IVF to attempt to get more viable embryos before we try another transfer.

So we just completed our second egg retrieval & are waiting on our results. I opted to do another test before we try an actual transfer again to make sure my uterus is in good shape & ready to accept an implantation.

So for now, it looks like we may be able to attempt another transfer at the end of the summer 🤞🏽
