ULTIMATE MILES STRATEGY: WEDDING BANQUET EXPENSES🥰

If you are a fellow bride-to-be or groom-to-be, DON'T MISS THIS POST! 💍 We are going to share our credit card strategy for how you can pay off your wedding banquet expense while MAXIMISING the MILES you can earn!!!

SG wedding banquet costs are SKYROCKETING 📈

We are currently planning our wedding for this November, and our banquet is expected to cost us a whopping $43k for 200 guests.. 💔 Yes mega OUCH!.... so we tried to find the silver lining in this situation. That is, by paying with the right credit cards to earn MILES.

With this credit card strategy, we are expecting to earn at least 172,000 miles (= FREE ROUND TRIP FLIGHTS TO USA FOR 2 PAX 😍)

🧐HOW TO START🧐

1️⃣ ASK THE HOTEL IF YOU CAN SPLIT THE BANQUET

PAYMENT INTO SMALLER AMOUNTS

Usually, hotels will tell you the payment schedule in lump sums (eg. you have to pay $X deposit, $X before wedding and $X at check-out). However, instead of paying lump sums, ask the hotel to allow you to split it into smaller amounts (most hotels actually do allow this, even for deposit payments!)

2️⃣ USE THE RIGHT CREDIT CARDS

Generally, a good Miles card should earn you at least 4mpd (miles per dollar). Miles are like reward points that'll allow you to redeem free flights, so the higher the better!!

However, these cards usually have spending caps (e.g. you can only earn 4mpd for the first $1000, and the remaining amount thereafter will earn you much lesser mpd).

ANOTHER IMPORTANT POINT TO CHECK is the reward categories for the 4mpd miles. The reward categories should include hotel payment transactions (you can check the eligible transaction's merchant category code (MCC) on the bank's website).

3️⃣ ARRANGE A MONTHLY PAYMENT SCHEDULE

Now that you know which cards can be used (and the spending caps), arrange a payment schedule with your hotel wedding coordinator. For us, we are splitting the banquet expense to 5 × $1k/1.5k instalments every month, for 9 months! This will allow us to slowly pay off the banquet expense every month, maximising the monthly miles cap!

Now on to the JUICEEEEEEEE: Which credit cards should I use?

⭐️ HERE’s THE LIST OF CARD WE USE FOR OUR WEDDING BANQUET⭐️

1️⃣ DBS Woman's World Card

(4mpd, $1.5k cap)

2️⃣ UOB Lady's Card

(4mpd, $1k cap)

3️⃣ HSBC Revolution Credit Card*

(4mpd, $1k cap)

*Some hotels’ MCC might not be included in HSBC’s white-list, so do check whether HSBC white-lists your hotel’s MCC! (: Ours do!!

So with the both of us applying these cards, we can earn up to 28,000 miles each month combined if we spend $7k max 🥰

PS: There are definitely other good miles card out there, but as mentioned above, do make sure to check the MCC of the eligible transactions!!
