Are The XM5s Worth $500? 🎧

If you’re looking for a new pair of headphones, the SONY WH-1000XM4/5 is probably one of your options! I was honestly very conflicted between the two because I’ve read reviews on both the Sony models but unsure whether the XM5s lived up to their higher price point! So here’s my honest review after using my XM5s for a whole month! ☺️

- noise-cancelling: 9/10

honestly one of the best noise-cancelling devices! it’s true that the AirPods Pro is a wonderful device with amazing noise-cancellation, but the XM5s took it up a notch! -1 because I can still hear the sounds of rain 🌧️ when it’s pouring heavily but other than that the quality is AMAZING! though I must say when compared with the XM4s, there’s not much of a difference (and in fact I can’t really tell) = XM4 & XM5 tied!

- aesthetic: a solid 8.5/10

this is really up to how you want your style to be… the XM5s is very modern and stylish while the XM4s give off a more casual and playful vibes. personally, I think the XM5s suit my style better because I dress smart casual most of the time! the toughest decision for me was to choose between the beige & the black headphones because the beige is definitely in trend & cute while the black is more timeless & chic… though most of my friends told me to go for white, I still chose black because it’s less likely to get dirty & I guess i wanted something more lowkey~

- convenience: 6.5/10

ok it’s not easy because I love bringing out my small handbags but they don’t fit in them unless I bring a tote or my work bag… some people dangle their headphones but in all honesty I prefer to keep it in the pouch when it’s not in use! so unless you don’t mind hanging it around your neck or dangling it on your bag, it can be quite inconvenient to bring it out! plus point is that I only charge it like ONCE every two weeks (I listen to music for ~ an hour every day) so that’s quite convenient for lazy people like me 👍🏻

- maintenance: 9/10

considering it’s black it’s easy to maintain it but it’s definitely ideal to clean it once every week!! using wet wipes to clean the cushions and the headbands area esp!!

- comfort: 8.5/10

yes the cushions are soft and it’s extremely light but I still experience some discomfort when wearing it for long (like after an hour) esp at the top of my head!

- cost: 4/10

if you have a flexible budget or you’re an audiophile, I strongly recommend you to go for cheaper headphones because $500 is crazy expensive! personally I got it off carou for $300 (brand new in box and sealed) so it was an extremely good deal 🥹 advice would be to get a second-hand one or if you’re lucky like me you can get cheaper offers for new ones!!

- overall: 7/10

id suggest you try on these headphones at physical stores first and wait patiently for promos (Amazon had amazing offers during 11.11 and 12.12) personally, i think headphones are more than just for listening to music because it’s an accessory that adds on to part of my outfit! if you don’t mind the hassle of carrying it around with you and you’re a big music-lover & have the budget for it, I’d say this is a good investment! Also, I don’t think there’s much difference between the XM4s and 5s, so if you like the style of XM4s or have a tighter budget, I’d recommend the XM4s>5s 🎧
