📺 must-watch anime for young adults

Because you will find it very relatable HAHA. Aggretsuko is an anthropomorphic 50 episode anime series featuring Retsuko, a 25 year old red panda who works as an accountant. Each episode lasts 15 to 20 minutes, and these 50 episodes are spread across 5 seasons, making it a perfect show to watch during a solo lunch date during your workday or when you are getting ready for bed.

The main plot of the series is about how Retsuko navigate her work life with bad supervisors, a few nice colleagues, a gossipy colleague but generally her workdays are pretty much normal like us 🤭. There are also side plots that showcase her friends, love interests and family members which I enjoyed as well because I fell in love with this red panda one episode in and I want to know everything about her and her life 🥰. I probably sound like a crazy stalker loser person right now but Retsuko is way too cute and human-like, watch the first episode and you’ll know what I mean.

I took a module about animals and animal representation through media in school last semester, so I find it very cathartic to watch these animals express emotions like frustration, anger, hopefulness and excitement in their exaggerated mannerisms. Seeing them (animals that typically walk on four legs, or none in the case of Tsubone the snake 🐍🤣) engage in activities human beings do like walking on two legs, working to earn a living, getting targeted at their workplace makes my imagination satisfied because these are the type of things I made up in my head as a kid.

Another reason I find this anime series endearing is because I relate to certain traits of Retsuko such as people-pleasing, but seeing her growth from a people pleaser to someone who knows how to stand firm and say no to unreasonable demands inspires me so much 🫡. Oh, she’s also an #Introvert like me!

My takeaway from Aggretsuko is that I think it is important to dissociate from work at the end of the workday and have time to live one’s life 😌. #RealTalk #BeReal work is just… work. It is good to vent our frustrations brought about by our work in a healthy manner too so as to not bring them home to our loved ones. Just like how Retsuko finds her peace after venting her frustrations through death metal karaoke 🎤 , I hope you find your own coping mechanism too!
