GO SEE WILD KANGAROOS 🦘

Where: There are multiple places and beaches around Australia, but I went to Cape Hillsborough Cape Hillsborough Natural Park. 1 hour and 37 minutes from Airlie Beach Airlie Beach (by Whitsundays) Queensland.

When: SUNRISE 🌅 This detail is very important. If you go any other time, 9/10 they won’t be there. For me, I went in November and sunrise was VERY EARLY: 5:17am. The time will depend on when you visit and time of year. I had to leave my accommodation around 3:40am to be on time.

BE PATIENT

When I first got there, there were no kangaroos and I was so sad. But I decided to take pictures and then sure enough they hopped onto the beach! Please wait at least 30 minutes before leaving.

BRING A JACKET

Sometimes it can be quite chilly. It will make the wait time more comfortable for you.

DO NOT hug or feed the kangaroos unauthorized food

I believe there is food to buy in the area to feed them (this encourages them to stay longer). I saw a few people get close for a selfie of to rub their head. The kangaroos seem to like it, but it may vary. Respect the kangaroos as wild animals, while still enjoying yourself.

SAFETY TIP:

If the kangaroo draws back into the sea, do not follow them. Their main predators are dingos (wild dogs) and they have a tendency to drown their predators. Also saltwater crocodiles are known to be in this area of the world. Do not swim at this beach.
