So that I didn’t have to stay with my in laws!

The biggest regret of my life would be getting married at the time we got married. We had to wait for our bto and because my in laws were extremely traditional, I was forced to move into their house.

I had a cordial relationship with them before marriage. But because of the circumstances, I had a build-up of very intense resentment (which I went to therapy for but it wasn’t resolved) and now I have a very strained relationship with them (entirely because of me, because I refuse to interact beyond the bare minimum with them). I also nitpicked all of their habits and mannerisms which deviated from my parents’ and depict them like villains in my head.

I miss having my own space where I’m comfortable to do whatever I like. They are not strangers, and they always like to say I’m married into their family and I should treat them like my own family but can I really??? I can never leh. Every time I come back from work, I am stuck in a tiny ass hdb room (which I now have to share with someone aka my husband). Every weekend I feel compelled to escape someplace else if my in laws are not out.

I acknowledge this is entirely my problem because they have been nothing but nice to me and accommodated to my quirks to a certain extent. But looking back, all these wouldnt have happened if we got married closer to us getting our bto flat.
