After spending on our house and reno, it was safe to say we didn’t have a lot of money left for a fancy solemnisation BUT we also had to get married cos #resale problems LOL. So we staged a budget (kinda) solemnisation at our new place!
Here’s a breakdown of what it cost:
1. Marriage registration fee: $42
You can’t avoid this unless you want to have an illegal marriage 😂
2. Solemniser Angpow: $88
3. Random decorations: <$10 from shopee
We did our solemnisation not too long from Chinese New Year so we just left our festive CNY deco up and bought a big XI word 😂
4. Meal for our party of 10 at a nearby Chinese restaurant : $300+
We thought of catering food but didn’t want to deal with the cleanup so we just treated everyone to a meal at our nearest mall
Other items that we spent on but are most definitely not compulsory:
1. Our money bouquet: $48
Just because I wanted something cute to hold and more permanent (and everyone likes money right 😂)
the bouquet has since become a cute display item and talking point in our home so it was a good investment 😎
2. A donation to our solemniser’s charity of choice: $50
He mentioned that he’s supporting some causes so we made a donation as well to support and share our joy (through a legit site and all, we definitely checked and made sure it was not a scam 🙃)
3. Drinks and snacks for guests: $10
We just randomly got drinks from our nearest Sheng Shiong 😂
What we didn’t spend on:
1. Complicated backdrops and decorations/flowers etc.
We were too tired after Reno to be putting up and tearing down more things. Besides we had a newly renovated home and that was the most beautiful thing for us 😂
2. Clothes and shoes and makeup
We just wore existing clothes we had and would be wearing for other occasions - nothing fancy here. Also no shoes cos we were at home so everyone was barefoot
I did my own makeup too! It was not the most fancy or beautiful (definitely pales in comparison to professional makeup 🥶) but I wasn’t too comfy splurging a few hundreds of dollars on this ceremony that took like 20 mins 😂
3. Photography/Videography
Our photographer friend was visiting SG and we offered him free accommodations at our house in return for being our photographer 😂 Another nice friend came to help out too! #friendship
4. Expensive pens and stationery
We printed our physical certificate at home and signed with a random pen (got it for $1 from the Monami store in Korea!) We have friends that believe in using a good pen/fountain pen/etc for this important day but we aren’t really big on that 😂
We also wrote our vows on random paper so we didn’t have fancy vow cards 🙂
5. Venue
Used our home as a venue so it was completely ~FOC~
That said, we’re also fortunate to have family who are not particular about the details of our #rom - they were just happy to turn up, do the witnessing and then have a good meal LOL.
