Hi loves!

I recently learned of the Kanban method of managing my hectic work schedule (Thank you Asma Nasa for sharing hehe). The word ‘Kanban’ is a Japanese word that means “visual board”. It was first developed and applied by Toyota as a scheduling system for just-in-time manufacturing.

Like its name, Kanban has helped me to visualise better of the things i need to do, pending items and what has been completed.

Here’s how you can start your very own Kanban! All you need is a tape, some sticky notes and a plain ole wall near your work area.

1. Place the tape and create 3 columns. I used a masking tape as it does not rip off the paintings on my wall.

2. Label the columns with: To-Do, In Progress and Done

3. Start writing down the things that you have to do on your sticky notes and paste them accordingly in each column. I color-coded my sticky notes as well. Pink - high alert, Yellow - I’m watching you, Blue - Not now, later. If you’re a starter, you’ll have all notes on the To-Do column. Tips: to avoid unnecessary anxiousness, i purposely added some of my previously done tasks on the ‘Done’ column as well hahaha.

4. Once you start doing a task or project, move the sticky note to the ‘In Progress’ column.

5. When done, move it again to the “Done” column.

I find this method very helpful to visualise what i have to do in a week. I’d sort my tasks from highest to lowest priority in the to-do column, colour- coded so i know exactly what needs to get going pronto just from a quick glance. Its also extremely rewarding to know that i’m continuously making progress and even more rewarding once I move the sticky notes to the final column. It makes me feel good knowing i’m not in a slump.
