4 things to know before backpacking Europe part 5π
πTrack your flight on Google Flights
Google Flights will send you email alerts on changes on your flight prices. The prices can vary a lot even within a week especially when flying in from another continent so you can save a lot of money if you set up a price alert for your desired flight route.
πHave a ticket out of the Schengen zone when entering
You are required to have a return ticket or a ticket out of the Schengen zone when arriving whether itβs visa-free or with a visa. You will likely not be asked to show it but itβs always possible immigration officers will ask to see it on arrival or you could even be asked to show it at check-in before your flight. If you are unsure about your plans, at least be prepared to tell them where you are planning to go and when and your transportation method (eg. Leaving Schengen in Croatia by bus to Montenegro).
πMake sure your bags fit the budget airline requirements
If you are planning to fly with Ryanair, Wizz Air, or some of the other budget airlines, make sure your bags can fit the size requirements if necessary. At some airports they very frequently check the sizes of almost all travelers bags and even if your bag is just a little too big, you will have to pay a hefty fee.
πBring more than one debit/credit card
Itβs always possible your card wonβt work somewhere and especially if you are from the US, you could have trouble with paying some cards or if your card is usually used by swiping as itβs not as common in all places in Europe. Make sure you have a card where you can use the pin code and preferably a contactless one, too.
