Hey zesties~ Following up on my story about rebuilding my relationship with running, hereβs more details on my favourite run app and tips!
β
Not sponsored (although itβll be super cool to be sponsored by Nike ahaha). All opinions and experiences are my own!
One evening, I downloaded the Nike Run Club app, put on my socks and shoes and decided Iβll just do a two minute run. Just two minutes. I could do two minutes, right? Itβll be like a walk in the park, and I knew Iβd be proud of myself for putting in the effort. Itβs okay if I donβt go far or run for long.
So I picked the two minute guided run and started with Coach Bennettβs voice in my ears, encouraging me to go on. Before I knew it, the run was done. Just like that. That was my first run in a long, long time, and it wasnβt miserable at all.
It was easy and pleasant, and I found myself looking forward to the next one. That very night, I saved the three minute and four minute guided runs, and found myself a nice spotify playlist for the next day.
πWhy I like the Nike Run Club (NRC) appπ
ππ» free!
ππ» guided runs (itβs like virtual coaching!)
ππ» set running goals based on distance, time or speed
ππ» health and wellness tips
ππ» achievement badges (sooo satisfying hahah)
πMy top tips for runningπ
ππ» Start easy and listen to your body
Go at a comfortable pace and be present with yourself. If youβre having difficulty breathing, focus on the inhales and exhales. If your steps are landing uncomfortably, adjust them as you go along. (and watch out for cars!)
ππ» Listen to a podcast
I learned this from Savannah Sachdev, a tiktoker who runs daily. She was right! Time seems to pass by quicker with a podcast, rather than music. Alternatively, the guided runs are amazing too.
ππ» Stop before you feel like stopping
This is a tip from Coach Bennett, head coach of Nike Running Global, and he shared that if you end every run feeling like you could have done more, youβll look forward to the next run. So far, itβs worked like magic for me.
ππ» Write notes after every run
Thereβs a little section at the bottom of each run record in NRC for notes, and Iβll always write a short note to say βIβm proud of myselfβ. Really, itβs been great for my mental health hahaha.
ππ» Go in the evening
You can run any time of the day, but evenings outdoors are my favourite. The weather will be cooler and you might catch a beautiful sunset. In fact, the sunsets are a big reason for me to go out π
If it feels daunting to go for a run, try two minutes. All the best, zestie! π
