book review: the color purple 💜

My first book of 2024 was a hit! Side note has anyone seen the musical yet? I still haven’t watched it 😭 to be fair, I was supposed to go this week/weekend but it’s well below 0 degrees where I live.

Now back to the book! This book is incredible. I remember watching the movie growing up and hearing iconic quotes but I never knew what it was about. In essence, this book is about a Black woman’s journey in the American South and all the trials and tribulations that come with it. It places an emphasis on mysogynoir, sexuality, spirituality, and what it means to be alive. The third picture shown here has one of my favorite quotes in the book as it pertains to spirituality.

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.”

I really love this book so much and completely understand why it won a Pulitzer and why it’s constantly praised. Have you read it?
