Sometimes we find ourselves feeling pretty low and may just need to clear our minds or lift our spirits. Don’t worry, I got you!

Here are five simple ways to pick your spirits up, babe!

1. Get Your Blood Pumping!

While rigorous exercise isn’t for everyone, I think we can all agree that getting your blood pumping can be a mood booster. This may look like knocking out 20 jumping jacks, dancing for 2 minutes straight, or even throwing yourself into a blood-pumping activity. It’s scientifically proven that exercise and physical excitement release dopamine, which in turn will be like dumping a bag of Halloween candy into your heart.

2. Take Yourself on A Day Trip.

Whether there’s a big city not far from you or even another part of town that feels like a whole different world, why not spend your off day on an adventure? This is such a fun and realistic way to sneak travel into your life. This may look like hopping on a train, driving your car a couple of hours, or even hopping on a $30 Spirit flight. Sometimes a change of environment can show you what else is out there in the world and put the things weighing down on you into perspective. Or at least give you a temporary break from them.

3. Immerse Yourself in Nature Sounds.

This can be in real life, virtually, or even by using musical instruments like a rain stick. Either way, connecting with nature in a way that makes you feel the most comfortable is always a great way to tap into the rich music of life itself. This is yet another way to realize how small you are in the greater picture of things.

4. Spend Quality Time with Someone Who Makes You Feel at Home.

Think of the person or people who make you feel safe to be yourself and leave you feeling uplifted and energized. Offer to treat them to a coffee or even just give them a call. Sometimes when we are down, we self-isolate and lose sight of the wonderful people who surround us. We feel that because we are sad, we will be no fun to be around, when really it could be quite the opposite. If you’re someone who may be sad but actively would like to feel better, this is a great way to welcome people into your space that will naturally inspire joy and remind you of the love you are tapped into.

5. Treat Yourself to Your Favorite Food.

This may look different for everyone. I know it looks like tonkotsu ramen with extra seaweed and black garlic oil for me. Either way, whether you are on a diet or on a budget and are afraid to overstep into the territory of no return… do it anyway. Treat yourself this one time and use this meal as a symbol of your joy. Promise yourself that you will focus your taste buds on what you love about this meal and forgive yourself later. If your favorite food doesn’t overstep your financial or health goals, this is even better! Girl, eat it every single day. No reason why you can’t tap into the emotional bliss that can come from food.

Each of these things are what I turn to when I’m on the down end of a mood swing or just going through something hard. Not all of them work all the time, but hopefully at least one can help with whatever you may be going through right now.
