I love a good caffeine spike but I also hate the caffeine crash 🫠 drinking coffee first thing in the morning is not the best for our hormones either …

We should wait at least an hour after waking up for any caffeine consumption to give ourselves time to hydrate, eat and balance cortisol naturally ✨

Cortisol is already higher in the morning to get us up and our day going. So adding in caffeine on an empty stomach is a recipe for anxiety.

Here’s some things to do in the morning before any caffeine:

1) drink at least 12oz - 16oz of water! You go the whole night without water so you want to make sure you’re hydrating first thing. Caffeine dehydrates you as a diuretic so you want to make sure you’re hydrated before!

2) oral care — gut health starts in the mouth so it’s important to scrap your tongue & brush your teeth before breakfast!

3) eat breakfast — coffee on an empty stomach causes major spikes and crashes in our hormones. You can reduce that by eating first! Eat a breakfast filled with protein and healthy fats.

4) work out — cortisol is naturally highest in the morning so exercising or going on a walk is a great way to lower those levels.

If you still find yourself anxious or not feeling great after coffee, try switching to decaf, matcha or adding adaptogens to coffee 🥹
