If you’re a note taker like me, I’d imagine you have notebooks full of sermon notes, Bible study notes, prayer journals, and maybe even an outline or two. I’ve been a Christian since I was 11 years old, and I got my first “grown-up” Bible in my teenage years. It was beautiful—my name was imprinted on the leather cover, and the pages were pristine. I wanted to keep it perfect forever! 🧡

But recently, I realized that my fervent protection of my Bible was holding me back from truly experiencing its full power! I was treating it like a collector’s item rather than the living Word it is. So, I bought a new Bible (in a translation I could understand better 😅) and decided I was going to use it exactly how it was meant to be used—worn, written in, cherished, and studied.

That’s when I decided to try something new. I asked my good ol’ friend ChatGPT to help me come up with a better way to study my Bible—and the difference has been astounding!

Now, I use a color-coded highlighting system to engage more deeply with God’s Word:

🌟 Yellow – God’s Promises

These verses remind me that God’s plan is good, even when life feels overwhelming. Jeremiah 29:11 is a favorite.

🌱 Green – Spiritual Growth & Wisdom

We’re always growing in our faith. I highlight verses that help me seek wisdom and mature spiritually, like James 1:5.

🙏 Blue – Prayer & Worship

Prayer is how I stay connected to God. Highlighting passages like Philippians 4:6 in blue inspires me to always bring everything to Him in prayer.

💕 Pink – Love & Relationships

The Bible is filled with wisdom on how we should love others. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 is a great reminder of how we’re called to treat those around us.

📜 Orange – Commands & Laws

God’s Word is full of instructions on how to live. Matthew 22:37-39 is highlighted in orange as a reminder to love God and others.

👑 Purple – Identity in Christ & Salvation

These verses speak to who we are in Christ and the gift of salvation. I highlight passages like 2 Corinthians 5:17 to remind myself of my new identity.

How You Can Start Today:

1. Grab your favorite Bible (or pick up a new one if you need a fresh start like I did!).

2. Get some highlighters or colored pens—assign each color to a specific theme, like promises, prayer, love, or spiritual growth.

3. Start small. Maybe pick one passage or chapter each day, and as you read, highlight the verses that stand out to you. Don’t worry about perfection—this is about growing closer to God.

4. Reflect on what you’ve highlighted. Take notes, journal your thoughts, and spend time praying about what you’ve learned.

God’s Word is alive, meant to be lived, worn, and studied. I encourage you to break free from the idea of keeping it “perfect” and instead use it fully, diving deeper into His truth. Each color will help you quickly find the encouragement, wisdom, and strength you need in different seasons of life. Let this be your reminder that the Bible is not just a book—it’s a tool for transformation.

So grab your Bible, some highlighters, and dive deeper into the truth He has for you! You’ll be amazed at how it strengthens your personal walk with God. 💖📖
