Almost became a victim of card fraud last night

This morning, I woke up to a very suspicious message on my phone that read "Fr DBS: Dear Customer, for security reasons, your card number ending xxxx has been blocked from use. Please call DBS hotline immediately."

This message was sent at 2:16am. Odd timing 🤔

With so many scams and phishing cases happening around us lately, my initial thought was that this could be just another scam message that wasn't even sent out by DBS. So I ignored it.

But then I realized, I couldn't use my card to make payment, and that's when I found out, that MY CARD IS REALLY BLOCKED.

Huh why? I only use my card to make payments for my day to day expenses and I didn't enter my card details onto any suspicious websites. I was sure I wouldn't be so xuay to fall victim to scams. But it (almost) happened to me.

I called DBS hotline during lunch and the lady over the line told me that there were 3 transactions made to "BLIZZARD ENT(???)" last night and the transaction was $98 each. She asked if I was the one who made the transaction, and of course I said no. Thankfully, DBS managed to flag these transactions as suspicious activity and 2 out the 3 transactions were immediately declined while the 1 transaction is still pending. Means it can still go through to the merchant 😱 But, since I've made the call to their hotline, they will monitor this pending transaction and raise a dispute case if the transaction goes through.

They've also arranged for a replacement card to be sent to me in the next few days.

Thoroughly impressed with DBS's fraud prevention efforts while I was sleeping. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Especially since there's so many cases of victims having their accounts wiped out in a blink of an eye.
