Whenever I look at this cover photo I want to laugh at myself!! 😂
This was how awful I looked back then 7 years ago but at the same time, I was my happiest (and heaviest) over here. Here’s what I did to glow up!
1. Weight loss
- I lost a total of 12kg in 2019. Someone who I was seeing told me in my face that I would look really good if I lost weight and that really STUNG a lot. I was also getting a lot of not-so-subtle remarks about my weight gain from friends and relatives so I was so tired of it I decided to do something about it.
- I walked 10k steps at least 4 times a week and went to F45 3-4 times a week when I was in Australia. It also helped that I did intermittent fasting.
- Now I don’t exercise as much as I did anymore already when I’m back in Singapore due to work and other commitments. But I try to run or walk at least twice a week, and watch my diet where I still do intermittent fasting and eat two meals per day ☺️
2. Knowing your personal colour analysis
- I went for the colour analysis in Korea to find out what colours would enhance my features.
- It turns out I’m a deep autumn so thankfully warm and dark colours would bring out the best in my skin tone and I was advised to switch to deep autumn makeup as well (e.g. colours that are warm toned)
- I was also recommended to have chocolate brown or khaki brown hair and hence, after years of experimenting with crazy hair colours from red to blonde I decided to go back to my original roots by dyeing my hair dark brown.
- I’ve received a lot of compliments since then as I think it does make me look younger! 😆
3. Confidence
- You know the saying - fake it till you make it. I wasn’t the most confident person back then before my #glowup and always felt like the DUFF (designated ugly fat friend) amongst peers.
- Overtime, I slowly started to be more confident by learning to love myself. I would psycho myself that I was the prettiest person inwardly and outwardly and told myself that I should love myself more because I’m great in XXX… (yucks I know, but it really does work)
- Look at how big of a difference it makes when you have no confidence VS with confidence where the energy and aura you have are totally opposite from one another!
4. Self-care
- Now that I’m working, I can afford to splurge on a lot of self-care on myself which is SO IMPORTANT!!!
- That means pampering myself with quality skincare products, treating myself to massages and manicures 💅, travelling abroad and indulging in good food and spending money on nice clothes.
-These are all forms of self-care that has contributed to my glow up and made me feel and look confident!
5. Eyelash extensions
-I can do without nails but I definitely can’t live without eyelash extensions LOL.
- It has definitely enhanced my appearance where my eyes look more alive and brighter as compared to without lashes!!! I also stopped wearing spectacles unless I’m working or at home and switched to contact lenses when I’m going out
6. Going foundation-free
- Less is more. I changed my entire makeup routine where I used to pick the wrong shades for my foundation and it did not do well 💀💀💀💀
-I didn’t know how to draw my brows properly as well and it ended up looking like caterpillars 🐛 I chanced upon haley0n’s YouTube channel on going foundation-free!
- If you’re interested, you can check out her YouTube https://youtube.com/@haleykimaking?si=N4cwgIClaUaknPbj
- Her makeup honestly changed my life and never looked back since then because my skin is so much CLEARER and HEALTHIER!!
- Also, I saved a lot money on not spending on foundations anymore. Anyway Singapore’s weather is too unsuitable for foundation as it’ll just melt under the weather.
- Now my makeup routine just consists of sunblock, concealer, contour, blusher and lipstick which saves me a lot of time. Sometimes I even go makeup-free if I’m lazy.
- I also got eyebrow embroidery because I couldn’t draw my brows properly and that was the best investment I’ve ever made because it’s been 5 YEARS and I still don’t need to draw my brows till this day.
I hope this post might encourage you if you want to get started on your glow up journey today 🎀💗
