My Favorite Season

The leaves shiver,

And the wind sighs.

How I long that my feet

Could take me to the sky!

And all down below,

Running along beneath me,

Great trees in fiery color!

Rivers clear as crystal!

And well worn roads

That tell the happy promise

Of warmth and home!

Oh, I’d fly all day underneath the sun,

And as it it’s golden rays

Sink beneath the long horizon,

The moon would guide the day’s travelers

To their hearths again.

And I would sink back to the ground,

Whistling, on the way, the song taught to me

By the autumn wind, as I step through my door.
