“Pray without ceasing”… my thoughts

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This year has been one of the most spiritually challenging years I’ve ever experienced. I have questioned God’s hand in my life, wondered if He was there and listening to me, wondering why in the world Satan had been attacking me and my family from seemingly every angle. I’ve been on my knees countless times, for myself, for family, for people I haven’t seen in years, for strangers.

I know now what “praying without ceasing” looks like. In Hebrew, cease is “לְהַפְסִיק”, meaning to stop, discontinue, to interrupt. God calls us to pray without stopping, without interruption.

No matter how I feel, no matter what my life looks like, I turn to prayer. Even when my human feelings get in the way and I think God isn’t listening, I know deep down He is. He cares. He loves us. And through the circumstances this year has brought my family and I, I have become so much stronger spiritually.

I’ve learned about spiritual warfare, and how “praying without ceasing” actually is the first line of defense.
