hi guys! today i’m gonna be a little more vulnerable and talk about: acne insecurities. i’ve had acne since i was 12 (i’m now 21) so it’s something i’ve lived my whole life with. as you can see in the pictures, my acne has been extremely angry at times, and when calmed down i’m left with scarring. i also have a skin picking disorder which makes acne reoccur on my face and makes the scarring worse. but yeah, that’s what i’ve dealt with on my face my whole life. sometimes it can be extremely tough on my self esteem and mental health, so i thought it was so important to talk today about how i overcome my insecurities! always remember to #loveyourself no matter the insecurity 🫶🏻

1. remember that your acne doesn’t define you. you are not your skin! you are worthy of love and respect regardless of how your skin looks, and if you aren’t met with kindness regarding your skin from someone then let them go.

2. as long as you’re treating your skin nicely, you’re doing the best you can. products should be making your skin FEEL great, not necessarily look great all the time. our acne can be a result of so much more than skincare products: stress, diet, environmental factors. so if you’re using the best of the best skincare and have a consistent routine but aren’t seeing perfect results, focus on how your skin feels. and if it feels good and is being treated with love then that’s all that matters!

3. ditch the foundation. i know how hard that can be, but really try to ditch the foundation for your own sake. and no i’m not gonna say some bs like “FoUnDaTiOn cLoGs yOuR sKiN” - instead i’m gonna outline how ditching the foundation can change your outlook. if you’re like me, you would’ve had a foundation reliance when your skin was at its worst (or even now). for me, starting to stop wearing foundation daily improved my mental health SO much. i noticed that my relationships were all the same, and they valued ME for who i was and not for how my skin looked. i got used to looking at my bare face throughout the day and became comfortable with how my skin looked. gone were the days of acne panic attacks! and girl when you’re not wearing makeup, tie your hair up. i promise. you look fine.

that’s the main 3 things i did to combat my acne insecurities. let me know if this helped any of you if you’re struggling and I PROMISE it gets better. my skin is still not the best, i have a lot of active acne and scarring, and i still have my down days. but it’s nothing like what it once was. you’ve got this!!!
