One thing we’ve started doing for our family of 3 is meal planning for the upcoming week or two! This has helped us stay on track with our healthy eating goals, budget, and overall sanity.

Coming from someone who grew up with a family that decided what to eat the DAY OF, it can be so stressful and draining to try and constantly figure out meals. I started meal planning in college so that I could avoid going to the grocery store everyday. It also seemed to help a lot with keeping off the weight and just overall eating healthier.

Here’s my best tips for meal planning for a family of 3:

🧁 SAVINGS APPS: Personally, I use ibotta for my meal planning needs. The biggest catch, however, is that you need to be mindful of what you ACTUALLY need to buy.

If you don’t have an idea, you can find yourself in a deeper financial hole in regard to grocery shopping. I tend to buy only things that were on my grocery list originally.

A lot of the time, my products are on the iBotta app and I get cash back for my purchases! Over the years, I’ve earned over $120 back using this app.

🧁 MEAL IDEAS: I find most of my meal ideas online! My favorite places to look are on Lemon 8, TikTok, and Pinterest. Once a week, I’ll do a quick search and find whatever meals look the best most appetizing (and will feed the most for less).

I try to find meals that have less ingredients or have ingredients that I already have at home. One of my favorite accounts for recipes on TikTok is

🧁 PLANNING: You don’t have to have some fancy planner to plan your meals but it’s always fun to have! I found this one at Walmart in the clearance section and love it because it has a magnetic backing so I can stick it to my fridge. I also have my grocery list that is magnetized as well.

To plan your week, it’s best to look at your calendar and see what days you’ll be late getting home, super busy, or when you’ll have a little bit more free time. For example, if I’m going to be home all day, I will throw something in our slow cooker. But if it’s going to be a pretty busy day, I’ll plan for something more simple like tacos.

Everyone has different ways to plan their meals and you have to figure out what works best for you! I’ve found that meal planning helps us stay on track and helps with the stress in the long run. 🧁🌮🌭🍔
