Food review: TCM-themed restaurant bar 🇸🇬

Synthesis is a recently opened restaurant bar at Suntec City tower 4, by the same owner as the popular MAMA DIAM.

1️⃣ ambience

It looks like an old TCM shop from outside, which is actually just a facade. We were so impressed by the walkway which looks like the exterior of the TCM shops (shop houses) and the staff dressed in a black Chinese robe.

Upon walking in, the restaurant and bar areas are relatively spacious; dimly lit in a red and black theme. The utensils also have the olden tcm vibes so the experience was quite nicely uniform.

2️⃣ food

To me, the food is great for sharing. Mostly homely and comforting, but elevated. Think local but with a twist.

We had the pan seared barramundi $28++ which was served with laksa foam that we simply can’t get enough of. The heavenly char siew $22++ is indeed heavenly.. the iberico pork is tender and melts in the mouth. And the Sakura chicken herbal “Pao fan” $24++ comes with collagen broth that is soo satisfying! For dessert, we had the yuzu nashi pear swirl $18++ which was really good actually but the portion is just a little too small.

3️⃣ drinks

We tried 3 of their cocktails which all local / tcm inspired. The tiger eye pu erh $22++ tastes like tea flavoured gin which is v fragrant but I find the Pandan cream on top a little thick. The Giam Sng tee highball $22++ is sour plum infused and served with pink guava. I like the citrine delight $23++ which is white rum with yuzu jam.

Overall would come again! There are a few more dishes I’m looking to try - such as the “Xia Hua” charcoal youtiao and the Suan pan zi truffle carbonara. Prices are not cheap for the food served but I would say worth the experience.
