With many contact lens shops moving online, not all of us have been taught how to wear and care for our contacts safely!

In SG, contact lens sales are super strict. It’s actually not recommended by HSA to buy contacts online. But with more legit shops online like HapaKristin offering cheaper & quality lenses, it’s hard to say no… Thus, IMO, it’s super impt to share more about contacts care for safer and more responsible contacts use!

I rmb when i first tried contacts, i got them from a dodgy ass shop in some neighbourhood optical shop. And they didn’t even teach me how to put it on????? It was only years later when I bought from a more established shop that I learnt how many things I was doing wrong…

🤨 DID YOU KNOW? Contacts are considered medical devices under SG’s laws?

💘 That said, it’s such a relief that all HapaKristin Lenses are under strict regulation of Korea FDA and approved by KGMP, CE, ISO13485 and CFDA 👍🏻 After trying on a few pairs (monthly and daily contacts), they haven’t given me any problems so far which is great~

5️⃣ CONTACT LENS RULES!

1. Wash your hands THOROUGHLY with soap before touching your lens and eyes. Dry hands with a paper towel or tissue as fabric towels may harbour bacteria

2. Never use tap water to clean lenses or your lens case! Tap water can contaminate it, especially monthly contacts that will sit and marinate in the bacteria 🤢 Instead, use contact lens solution/ cleaner! I like Renu and Biotrue— I like the travel sized ones cos they feel “fresher” lol

3. Take out your contacts before sleeping… PLS… i heard it’s biologically impossible for it to go behind your eye but…….. u rly never know ah

4. THROW AWAY DAILY CONTACTS don’t rewear them 😤

5. Wash your monthly contacts with lens cleaner. You have to put a few drops and rub it to make sure you “kill” the protein and dead eye cells or they’ll marinate in your lens case…

💡OTHER TIPS:

1. Get an eye examination before buying contacts

- this is to make sure u know ur actual degree (wearing the wrong degree may strain ur eyes further and damage it more)

- you might have ASTIGMATISM! Which require special toric lenses to ensure they dont slide around in your eyes. HapaKristin stocks astigmatism lenses too!

- you can check your eye diameter to know which coloured contacts will fit better on u!

2. Monthly lenses can be used as many time as you want for 30 days after opening. But always double check the packaging instructions! If in doubt, just buy new ones. I love dailies bc it’s easier to just buy and throw lol

🤓 For first timers:

1. Make sure you give yourself adequate time to get used to the contacts. The first time you put it on, take it off after 4hrs. The second time, 6-8hrs. And the third time, 10hrs. This is to help your eyes adapt (esp if it gets dry easily!)

2. Bring eyedrops and your specs esp if it’s the first few times wearing it! Eyedrops get rid of that “cloudy” feeling in your vision. And specs are good to have w you if you start feeling strained or develop headaches

3. NOT ALL EYEDROPS ARE THE SAME!!! There are eye drops specifically made for contact lens use! I like BAUSCH & LOMB’s singe-use eyedrops because they are so convenient to bring around.

4. Wear your contacts before you start showering, doing your skincare etc. because more products = higher chance of your fingers touching something dirty

5. Make sure your contacts are the right side up (more rounded, less V shaped)

6. TBH, if it’s your first time wearing contacts, I highly recommend going down to a shop and getting taught properly before buying online. Having the know-how puts you at ease when buying online in future! Still, always buy from reputable shops! It’s not worth endangering your vision for a few dollars…

OTHER RANDOM TIPS I LEARNT!

💡Getting it out with long nails:

Use your left ring finger to pull your lower lid down. Use the fleshy part of your middle finger to slide the lens off center to the lower outer corner of your eye. Use the fleshy parts of your two middle or index fingers to pinch your contacts out.

Never let your nails grab the contacts— you’ll def damage your eyes..

💡How to fight the blink reflex:

As you put it in, look upwards towards the right. I make sure my hand is dry and has minimal lens solution as the lens will stick to your finger and not get transferred over to your eye as easily.
