Finally cleared my skin 😮‍💨 My Acutane Experience

- My skin broke out at the age of 15, all the way to 18

- I turned to Acutane, or rather, Oral Isotretinoin. Acutane is a brand of that, and there is cheaper alternatives.

- It was my last resort, after trying skincare, and topical treatments. Antibiotics can also be another option, depending on how serious your acne is.

- I took this brand—— Oratane

🌸What to expect:

Before even getting the prescription, you will undergo a blood test to see if your body can handle the medicine. Depending on your dose, your skin will be perpetually dry, flaky, itchy, and peels.

🌸 How long is the treatment?

Mine was for 6 months, but others take it for longer until their acne has cleared up, or taper it off by reducing the dosage.

🌸 Other side effects?

There is actually a lot of serious side effects. I had bruising sometimes (checked up and it was ok!).

‼️‼️‼️ One other side effect that is a major, major factor is that is messes your hormones up, and has a chance of giving you anxiety and depression. (always consult your doctor first)

🌸 The key is maintenance

Taking oratane did help with clearing my skin up, but I saw it as a period of learning how to maintain and improve my lifestyle and skincare (including diet) so that after my treatment, I won’t have to get back to taking Acutane because my acne comes back (I have heard people having to go back to Acutane. but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t have a healthy lifestyle)

🌸 After treatment

Pores became slightly larger, and my skin slightly oiler, but it’s definitely normal. My doctor said that Acutane gave the most perfect skin, and it’s important not to be attached to that, because only taking Acutane for life can achieve such skin!

🌸 Remember- Acne is part of you, and I know how much it affects our confidence, but always know that you’re beautiful. Textured skin is beautiful. Let’s not choose to consume unrealistic, filtered beauty :)
