Japan has FINALLY opened upπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯³ Japan is my fave country so far & I've been there every year since 2014!

If you are planning to head to Japan here are some things to note!

1. Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) πŸš…

This pass allows you to take unlimited JR Trains across the country. JR Trains are the high speed bullet trains that take you from state to state. If you are planning a vacation its highly likely you won't just be in one state so consider getting this as it really helps with savings!

The pass has two options 7/14 days. So do plan your itinerary to make full use of the pass πŸ‘πŸ»

2. No eating while walking 🍑

The Japanese take pride in their food & hence consider it poor behaviour to eat & walk. If you are getting street food, you will usually see a group of people standing beside the shop or in a corner.

3. Tattoos ❌

While there are a bunch of famous tattoo artists in Japan, tattoos are still considered taboo & are highly associated with organized crime. So in the spring/summer season, do be mindful with what youre wearing unless you are okay with the occasional stares.

If you are travelling with your friends & all of you are heavily tattooed, i would highly highly suggest you cover up as many establishments/attractions might restrict yall. People also associate groups of tattooed friends with crimeπŸ₯²

4. Onsens ♨️

Onsens are a huge part of Japanese culture & its one of the things everyone tries when in Japan!

- Attire : Naked, yes absolutely no clothes are allowed in the water, not even a towel. For ladies, do tie your hair & ensure they don't touch the water too.

- Behaviour : Onsens are meant for people to relax so please do not be noisy. Do not swim or run around as well. Do not bring your phones in too, there are lockers for you to keep your belongings. Do becareful if you are trying to snap any pictures.

- Tattoos: Tattoos are usually not allowed in onsens but some places might be less strict so do check directly with the establishment. You may use a tattoo patch or book a priv onsen if you are heavily tattooed. Some onsens do allow tattoos but they won't allow groups of people who are tattooed to be tgt. So you can enter separately & just keep apart while you're there.

5. No bins around πŸ—‘οΈ

There are very lil bins around for such a clean country. Most people keep their trash with them till they get home or find a bin.

6. Punctuality ⏰

Japan is known for their punctuality. If the train is destinated to leave at 11:07 it will leave exactly at that time. Do keep track of your time esp if you are rushing for trains.

7. Are masks mandatory? 😷

The Japanese have been wearing mask way before Covid so you still will see many of them wearing it. There are currently no official rule on mask wearing but I would suggest bringing a few with you incase.

8. Type A sockets

I would suggest getting a small adaptor instead of the big ones universal ones. This is because the sockets are usually very close tgt & a big adaptor will partly cover the second plug hence not allowing you to use it at all.

I will be heading to Japan very soon & I can't wait to post travelling content!!
