Ho Ho, did you know you can also test out your dog's DNA? Similar to Circles' Life for humans, dogs also have a kit called the Embark Test Kit. There are a few in the market but Embark is the most popular & accurate one.

I was always interested in this as many owners have done it & since Kopi is a mongrel, I thought it would be cool to find out her exact breed mixes & genetic traits🤣

I did a group buy with @theweatherpomskies on IG, she does regular embark GBs so you can drop her a dm to check if she currently has any slots avail! I went to her as it would be slightly cheaper & because I'm not very familiar with the process. Each kit also shows different results, you can see the comparison here

Some interesting results:

Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI%) - This result shows the amount of inbreeding your dog has. The higher the %, the closer the inbreeding. Think of breeding btw immediate families for multiple generations. Inbreeding often leads to genetic problems which can cause your dog to have a shorter lifespan , physical disabilities or mobility issues.

Physical Traits - The report also comes with an extensive breakdown of the dog's physical traits such as coat colour, physical size/weight, amount of shedding & even if they are food motivated. This can be an interesting read to understand more about your dog.

Health - The test can also detect if there are any variants that you should be concerned about. Kopi has inherited both copies of GPT Gene & is likely to have a lower than average baseline ALT Activity.

Do I think that its #WorthIt ? Yes😅 But I do think that its not a necessity so you can consider this if you have a lil extra $ hanging arnd. After all if your dog already has srs health issues, you should be aware of it & go to the vet instead of using this & waiting on the result.

Some people also do this to test if their dog is pure bred. Many shops are not honest & they sell you a mix breed instead. But it doesnt mean that they love their dog any less☺️
