Bringing your kids for a road trip in NZ is fun and exciting, but learn from me and donโt forget to pack these things before you go:
1๏ธโฃ Sunshades or portable curtains โ๏ธ๐
Youโre going to need this a lot for long car rides to protect your kids from the glaring sun. I regret not bringing ours and had to improvise with blankets to shield my baby. You can find affordable options starting from S$3 on Shopee by searching โbaby car curtain.โ But this only works well if youโre sitting in the passenger seat. If youโre driving, then unfortunately, you just have to deal with it ๐ฌ (pack your sunglasses!)
2๏ธโฃ Raincoats ๐ง๏ธ
You might think that having a car allows you to easily return to shelter your baby when itโs raining. Donโt. The distance from your parking spot to the attraction can be quite long, and by the time you reach your car, youโll likely be soaking wet. Donโt bother bringing umbrellas to NZ because the winds there are just crazy. Instead, pack good quality raincoats for everyone in the group.
3๏ธโฃ A variety of medicines ๐
My mistake was not packing enough medication and assuming I could buy it there if needed. But when my baby caught a cold after returning from Milford Sound (because it rained and we left the raincoats in the car), we were stuck with only Bye Bye Fever, and no pharmacies around were open after 8 PM. Nobody plans to get sick when traveling, but sometimes it just happens. Itโs best to prepare in advance by packing essential medications like fever-reducing medicine, flu medicine, cough syrup, and nasal spray.
