What is SPF and PA in sunscreen?🤔

Heyyy girls! Let's talk about sunscreen again! 🤩

I'm sure you girls are aware of the SPF and PA stated on your sunscreen. But do you know what it really means? Does higher SPF and PA makes a good sunscreen? Let's find out!

What is SPF and PA?

SPF (sun protection factor) measures only UVB protection, while the PA (Protection Grade of UVA) rating only measures UVA protection. Both types of rays are bad for our skin, but in different ways.

UVB rays are responsible for causing our skin to turn red and Burn, while UVA rays is associated with skin Aging.

⭐ SPF

SPF in sunscreen is at least 15 and the highest is 100! 1 SPF is capable of protecting skin and limiting the harmful effects of UVB rays for about 10 minutes.

For example, a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will protect the skin from UVB rays for about 300 minutes

Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++ means: UVB protection rate is 98%, effective time when used on skin is 500 minutes and can block 90% of UVA rays.

The '+' sign: The plus sign means 'more than'. For example, SPF50+ sunscreen must provide at least SPF60 in testing. This is because the same batch of sunscreen will test slightly differently in different laboratories with different methodology. By testing at SPF60, it removes any margin for error.

Some product marketed as an SPF 100+, and it doesn't mean that they’re protected from 100% of the UVB rays, or that the product will work all day. It doesn't work that way and all sunscreen must be reapplied.

⭐PA

The greater the number of plusses after the PA, the more protection you get from UVA exposure

PA+ = Some UVA protection

PA++ = Moderate UVA protection

PA+++ = High UVA protection

PA++++ = Extremely High UVA protection

I personally think SPF50 PA+++ is already good enough. If you're out whole day sweating under the hot sun or swimming you have to keep reapplying it. It's abit of a hassle but girls gotta protect your skin or you'll regret it in the future😐
